Trick or Treat

Do you remember that I promised to down-size a few days ago? You may wonder what I meant as I have blogged every day so far. Well, at least some of my posts are tiny, and to prove I meant business I am not going to challenge you with a bait-in-the-box quotation today.

The trick seems to work, though. After a very dry period I have written three flash stories in one week (plus marked a bunch of essays – but who wants to hear about that). And I would be very happy indeed if you would take a look at the first story I have sold, Lollipop. Don´t worry, it won´t take you long to read all two hundred fifty seven words.

Congratulations Dorte - both on selling your writing and on the revival of your creative spirits. Excellent news on both counts.

But poor Grandma!

I'm popping over to see Lollipop. Congrats on its sale, too!

How wonderfully chilling. Lollipop took me back to my childhood visits to see my great-grandmother - until that last paragraph that is.

Dorte - I'm so happy you're making writing progress! And Lollipop is a wonderful story with a deliciously creepy end! Congratulations on selling it!

Thank you so much for all your praise and encouragement!

Bernadette: we´ll have to hope it was quick and painless!

Elizabeth: I saw your comment there. Thank you.

Jane: tusind tak! Nogle gange glider det bare, og den her var let og sjov at skrive. Andre gange falder det bare aldrig på plads.

Tracy: I know. You could say that I trick my readers there.

Margot: I love "creepy".

Wonderful story!! You really have a knack for painting a vivid picture with words!

I think we can allow you a day or two without a blog post if it means you're writing good stuff like that.

Dorte, congratulations. I like your story.

Yea! Go Dorte!

Nice example of leaving space for the reader to work out what's going on, rather than telling them :-)

I really enjoyed your story. Thanks for sharing it. Will look forward to reading more of your work.

Dear Dorte
A big congrats' to the selling and publishing of your 'Lollipop'. And what an excellent ending. That took me with surprise. Your are so clever and extremely good to create a good story with few words.

Coming back to your down-sizing! You know what is best for you, and if you don't take care of yourself, no-one else will! Plain and simply, you send out the message to other people, the way you treat yourself.
And do slow down. I have mention to you before, my wondering of how on earth you manage to accomplish so many things.
And as I understand, from all the reading on the blogs incl all the comments, you have worked like a mad-man to create an enormous amount of text.
I know you decide, but SLOW DOWN for the sake of your family, your readers, your blogs' and most important, yourself (the nurse is speaking). You have my fully support.
Besides, if you get too overworked, you kill you future goal to write and get you own book publish.
Take a holiday! Create a break! Nurture yourself more! And never forget to smell the roses!
Sincerely and with warmly thoughts Poly
PS. Hvad var det der med "diagnose du har og lever med"!?!

Kelly: thank you! And over time you probably will have to do without now and then, but right now I am less busy at work so ...

Tim: I am glad many of my friends appreciate the empty spaces, but I can see that some readers do not quite get it (e.g. the motive).

Jose: thank you very much!

Heather: I am so glad the first I sold was published online so I could share it with you all.

Poly: thank you for your support and encouragement!

And my diagnosis is Chronic Fatigue Syndrome which means I can only work half-time. On the other hand it gives me some time to blog and write fiction on my good days. So for someone who wants to write, it is far from the worst think to suffer from.
