E is for Electronic Pleasures

[Kerrie´s alphabet meme + two-sentence Tuesday, Women of Mystery - a bit early]

Do you know how many free or cheap pleasures you can find out there? IF you can read electronic texts in one way or the other. (If you are reading this, you probably can).

I downloaded a great selection of free flash fiction the other day: "Flash Fiction for the Cocktail Hour" - eleven well-written stories full of intriguing characters - written by American Cathryn Grant.

As I am going to use this collection for my Danish challenge (short story month), I´ll bring a couple of delicious quotations over the month.

A Thousand and One Bottles of Wine.
"She plucked at the spandex that clung to her legs like cobwebs. She wasn´t sure if the tight fabric looked good because it showed how slim she was, or looked bad because it left nothing to the imagination."

Things change in Corrine´s life, and she decides it´s a good opportunity to think of her life style. Read the story to see how this attempt turns out. And you know what: you can download the whole collection from Smashwords - absolutely free of charge. But don´t come back to blame me if you develop an addiction to Cathryn´s stories! I read one, and I have followed her blog ever since.

Tomorrow: come back to see how you can win Cathryn´s brand-new novel, The Demice of the Soccer Moms, or even a Kindle for one, very lucky winner.

Finally, a quotation from my latest flash story, Hand in Glove.

She found the other glove under a woodpile, and it all came back.
"Your mother loved you, sweetheart. She went up to your room and kissed you goodbye before she left," her father had assured her.

I have bated breath while I wait to see what you will come up with for the CFA each week Dorte, and you don't disappoint!

Kerrie: Actually I have had to PLAN a bit this week - not something I do often - and I am so proud I remembered to use Mr Linky!

Dorte - A really creative and well-imagined choice for the letter "E!" I am quite impressed! And you're right, too; E-reading offers sometimes a terrific alternative, and it doesn't have to cost much.

Thank you, Margot, but I was partly inspired by something Maxine said to Bernadette in our FriendFeed room - so as usual, I found my inspiration in our virtual living room :D

Good job with "e", Dorte! I'm looking forward to reading your responses to this challenge. :)

Cool! I'm finding a lot of great free ebooks and such online. It's super.

Elizabeth: as I also participated last year, I am trying to do something a bit different.

Clarissa: yes, isn´t it? A few days ago a friend posted a link about some excellent one-dollar finds (as a Danish customer I have to pay VAT, but still, 3.44 for a five-star crime novel is not bad).

I loved the spandex quote! (and I've adready put the soccer mom book on my Kindle...think it would count as a Cozy when I do that challenge later in the year?)

Your quote is quite intriguing!

What a great surprise, Dorte. Thanks for your mention of my flash fiction and my novel.

The feeling's mutual about reading one and being hooked.

I had set a price of 99 cents for my flash fiction because I'm experimenting real time with pricing. Now that you've referred your readers to it, I'm changing the price back to "free" for the time being. Sorry about that.

Kelly: Cathryn is wonderful at creating suspense & intriguing characters, and I think you´d love her book, but I wouldn´t call it cosy.

Cathryn: you are welcome! February is short story week which made your stories fit in so well. If you give my readers a chance for a day or two, that will be excellent, thank you.

That lone glove worries me, Dorte!

Gautami: thank you.

Clare: it should!
