A Christmas Story?

Is there anyone out there who want a Christmas story?

If so, please send me your ideas: which ingredients do I need to make it a real Christmas story?

And don´t worry, no matter what you suggest, I suspect there may be a dead body or a crime in it.

I think one element of a good Christmas mystery is a gathering of family members or friends who have all kinds of relationships with each other. That way, you can explore things that make for a great mystery, such as old secrets, long-standing animosity and jealousy.

Hummm, the murder weapon is a gift (food or something poisoned) -- the tag supposedly fell off, no one admits to giving it.

Someone dressed as St. Nicholas as the victim? :)

Thank you all for your great suggestions!

Margot: I love old family secrets :D

Beth: I wouldn´t write my name on the tag either ... ;)

Elizabeth: St who? ;)

Dorte, if you use Father Christmas as a victim, please be wary of following in Arnaldur Indridason's footsteps (i.e., VOICES). That one would be tough to follow.

Tinsel or a christmas tree decoration would make a wonderful murder weapon, don't you think? I also like Elizabeth's idea of someone dressed as St. Nicholas as the victim - perhaps found at the bottom of a tree, clutching a sweet mince pie.

Dorte, imagine an apparently bludgeoned victim lying in the snow-covered field, but the only marks in the snow seem to be hoof-prints from reindeer. And, to make it interesting, the victim died within 12 hours, and the snow fell heavily 24 hours ago but then stopped. This is sort of your locked-room mystery in an open field.

what about the wierd uncle who always wears that Santa hat with the big pom pom. it seems as though he is too jovial, must be hiding something

Dorte H sagde ...

R.T.: oh bother, with you around I can´t even steal Indridason´s plot ;) A snow-covered field might be an idea, though.

Petty witter: I like your handy weapons!

Heather: weird, far too jovial uncles are a must in any Christas story! Thank you.

Dorte: What about a Christmas story in a rather different setting like Brazil or Australia?

Dorte H sagde ...

Jose: thank you for the suggestion, but a British or American Christmas may be exotic enough for me. A Danish Christmas is rather different as our main celebration is Christmas Eve on the 24th.

Jose Ignacio Escribano sagde ...

Dorte: In most parts of Spain our main celebration is also on Christmas Eve.

Dorte H sagde ...

Jose: oh, I am glad to hear that. We celebrate Christmas for days, but Christmas Eve is when we have a huge meal, sing psalms around the tree and give each other gifts.

Hi Dorte, How about a gift that's opened, revealing a long-kept secret that the recipient doesn't want revealed at any cost?

I have a flash fiction story appearing at Every Day Fiction on Dec. 25. Have you submitted any of your work to EDF?

Dorte H sagde ...

Cathryn: ah, a mysterious gift? I like that one :D
Great that you have sold a flash fiction piece.

I haven´t tried EDF yet, but they are on my list so when I have got over a very busy November, I plan to send some texts off again.
