If I had to pick just one favourite detective, it would be very difficult for me to choose between Chief Inspector Adam Dalgliesh and Inspector Morse. I have spent so many pleasant hours in the company of these two gentlemen.
But today is P.D. James´ day. Believe it or not, the woman who has written so many wonderful crime novels, turns 90 today – and is still going strong.
Congratulations, Baroness James of Holland Park!
And thank you for two great stories about the private detective, Cordelia Gray, and fourteen novels featuring Adam Dalgliesh.

Dorte - Well-said : ). Adam Dalgliesh is a wonderful character, isn't he? And Cordelia Gray is terrific, too. Thanks for spotlighting Baroness James and her fantastic detectives. d
Sounds like an intriguing detective. I'll have to check this one out. I'm amazed at P.D. James is 90 today. Thanks for sharing.

Thoughts in Progress
Margot: I think she deserves a bit of attention. There are many writers with good plots, but her language is in a premier league.
Mason: "Adam Dalglish" is British crime fiction when it is best!
P.D. James jumps to the top of my pile every time, Dorte. I join you in wishing her many felicitations of the day!
Seana: she has never disapointed me yet. Off to meet Dalgliesh :)
P.D. James is an amazing woman!
It's been awhile since I read the Cordelia Gray books, but I love Adam Dalgliesh and look forward to each new installment!
Thanks for this tribute.
She is a marvel, isn't she?
90! That is so amazing! She is one of my favorite mystery authors. I borrowed her latest book, the nonfiction one called Talking About Detective Fiction, but never did get around to reading it. This post has reminded me to check it out again!
Kelly, Clare, Belle: I love hundreds of crime writers, but P.D. James is the one I admire the most. If I could write like her ...
