Now and then I come across people who don´t think they can read it because it is an e-book, or they are not certain how to buy via Smashwords. I don´t want to push anyone into buying (or selling) my stories, but I´d like to clear up a misunderstanding.
Anyone who has a computer can read Smashwords books - because Smashwords offers ten different formats, including PDF and rtf.
Besides, Smashwords distributes books to several other retailers - if the writer wants them to. So now, five weeks after my book launch, you can buy "Candied Crime" via Barnes & Noble (Nook), Sony, and diesel ebook store.
And soon you should also be able to buy it via Amazon.com (Kindle) and Kobo. Until then, Kindle readers must choose Smashwords´ Kindle mobi version.
New German-based distributor (pdf version): XinXii.
NB: I have just seen my first five-star review on Smashwords! Do you think I´ll be able to teach today?
You'll be able to reach, but there will be a tiny part of your brain somewhere else, smiling.
Good to clear it up, Dorte! I purchased it directly through Smashwords because I wasn't sure how to access your book through the Kindle store. Great stories--I know you're so excited about your release!
Cathryn: you don´t quite know me yet - I am very good at compartmentalising :D
Elizabeth: thank you!
Smashwords haven´t sent it to Amazon yet - for some reason that takes a bit longer.
I was able to download onto my computer but not to my Kobo. Now I can. If I have to pay for it again, NZ$1.30 isn't going to kill me!
I wouldn't be able to teach, and I'd be smiling all day!
I'm such a bad blog reader. I missed the launch of your book, but i have it now waiting to be read. Congrats!! I'm sure I will enjoy it.
Joanne: please send me an e-mail if you can´t download again so I can give you a free coupon. I really don´t want you to have to pay twice

Iasa: but you are definitely a good friend! Thanks for buying "Candied Crime", and I hope you like having your crime sugar-coated ;)
I had no trouble downloading from Smashwords to my Kindle. My only complaint is that once I finished reading it (and Kathryn's "Suburban Noir") that it wouldn't allow me the option of "archiving" it like I do Amazon purchases. So naturally I kept it on my device rather than deleting!
I liked buying it via Smashwords, because I could pay using Paypal! But why don't you just set up an author account at Amazon and upload it that way, Dorte? You can pick out your tags and categories then.
Belle: I have considered that, but if I publish directly, I´ll only get 35 % of the sales price (because I am not North American). Via Smashwords it seems I´ll get 60 %.
Ah, didn't think of that. And I think it's 30% for all authors if you're charging 99 cents. Smashbooks sounds like the way to go in that case!
Belle: yes indeed. I don´t mind a low price as long as I get a fair share of it.
