Crime Case
You receive an alarm call.
Sally Smith, Elm Lane in Bedford, has heard “something that sounded like a gun shot” from the flat above her own. The person who lives in the flat is a single girl, Marie Oates.
You are the detective/police officer: what will you do next, and which questions will you ask?
Send me a question (one or two each in the form of a comment), and the better questions, the better answers you will get in tomorrow´s post.

I guess we'd better send a patrol round to see if there's anything amiss.
Does Ms Oates answer her door? Could the sound have been from a neighbouring flat? Did Ms Smith hear anyone enter or leave Ms Oates' flat?
Dorte - First, the particulars: address? Then, Did you hear any other noises, such as a struggle or other loud noise? Did you hear a door slam or any noise of someone leaving? At what time?
Very promising questions. Let us see what else comes up today, and tomorrow you will get as many answers as are possible in 24 hours.
Well, while we are waiting to see if Ms. Oates answers the door, I suppose we should ask Sally Smith if she went upstairs or telephoned to check on Marie.
What was Sally doing when she heard the noise?
Were the windows open? Could it have been the TV? What is the address? Is she personally acquainted with Ms. Oates? Did she hear anyone fleeing after the gunshot? This is of course after a patrol car has been dispatched. I think they might warn her to stay inside her apartment, door locked.
Ah, this is progressing nicely.
Is she sure that's where the noise came from? Does the single girl date anyone in particular? Did she hear any voices before the shooting?

Ah, we´ll see tomorrow.
What is her impression of Ms. Oates? Is she the type to party a lot? Is she mostly alone ind the flat? Has she got any family? What is Ms. Oates job? And Sally`s ? Has she got a lot of friends? Have they got any interests in common? What was Sally doing when she heard "The gun-shot"? Was she alone at that time? How old are they both?
Bente: I won´t have time to add anything to tomorrow´s post, but fine questions which I´ll remember for later.
Okay...most anything I'd want to cover has already been covered. I think I would want to know more about the neighborhood in general, too.
