Challenge Pressure

I thought that a reading challenge with an expert level forcing the participants to read 14 novels from all over the world would be enough for most people.

But no, I am surrounded by reading extremists so yesterday I gave in to massive pressure and added a fourth level.

The Extremist Level

Read three novels from each of these continents in 2010:
Africa
Asia
Australasia
Europe
North America (incl Central America)
South America

Add two novels which are set in Antarctica + a ´wildcard´ novel (from a place or period that is NEW to you).

And if you really are an extreme reader, you will do your best to read novels from 21 different countries or states.

(Somehow no one seemed to want to read more than two novels set in Antarctica - how very odd).

WOW--the extremist level! I'll admit that I'm in awe of everyone who is taking this on, Dorte. I think it'll be fascinating, though. Enjoy!

Obviously not an extreme reader myself, I so admire you for taking on this challenge - good luck.

Elizabeth and Tracy: oh, I am not an extremist in any way! ;D

I am just hosting the challenge, I have never promised I will go to these lengths.

Well I still have to read just ONE book in all categories, so I am pretty sure I am not an extremist either. I do love this challenge though.

Dorte - I'm not an extremist either. I think it's wonderful that you pushed the challenge to the next level, though, for those who are. I truly admire them - and you.

Louise: on the whole I also love the challenge, but TWO novels about Antarctica is plenty for most women, I think.

Margot: oh, it is really very simple to host the challenge (now that Kerrie has helped me with the links) so for me it doesn´t make much difference if people want to read 6 or 60 books :D

I think this is a great challenge but there are so many good books out there I am not going to force myself to read books set in Antarctica.
Instead I am going to read an extra book by a Danish author so that you will forgive me. ;O)

Norman: forgive you? - for being smarter than me, you mean?

I just wish someone would have told me beforehand that there were no Antarctica novels for intelligent, female readers :O

And I hope you have also been smart enough to choose a GOOD Danish book.

It was already too challenging for me!! I admire those who complete it, especially with this added 'extremist' level.

Kelly: I must admit it came as a surprise that participants began mumbling about new, harder levels already in March or April.

I may have to create a weekly challenge next year: read a book from a new country every week in 2011. :D
