Around ten years ago we had all our elm trees to the North removed because of the Dutch elm disease. It looked like a huge, black sore so we really enjoy the white and lilac bushes.

Dorte - I can see why! These are lovely : ). Thanks for sharing them.
Lilacs are beautiful (and we have shelter from the wind again) so we have learned to live without elm trees. Perhaps nature just eradicates old trees once in a while?
It's always sad to lose old trees, though. I remember when we lost a huge oak in a storm ten years ago. It took awhile to get use to the yard without it.

I love lilacs, but so sad to have lost your trees. Dutch elm disease is common in my area too.
Beautiful photo. Love the smell of lilac bushes.

Kelly: it really was an eyesore the first year or two, but now the garden looks even better than before.
