Mari Jungstedt in the Pink
The Swedish, British and Danish covers of Mari Jungstedt´s fourth crime novel. Do you think her Danish publisher expect male readers to sit around reading such a pink book?
Mason: publishers often have their own ideas about what looks good and what sells, but I think this cover is a great mistake - if they expect men to read their crime fiction, that is.
I can't really see many men wanting to read a book with such a shocking pink cover. I personally wouldn't want to read the one top middle either - it's very scary.
Dorte - What an interesting contrast! I wonder why they chose that color combination...I'm no expert, but it wouldn't have been my choice.
SvarSletI have the British cover on my TBR mountain, far better!
SvarSletMargot: usually I look at the price before the cover, but I really wouldn´t want to be caught in a train reading that girlish thing.
SvarSletNorman: British covers are often very good, and this time the difference is striking (screaming?)
It's odd that they color scheme is so totally different.

SvarSletThat "girly" pink does seem odd for a crime novel.
SvarSletPersonally, I'm most drawn to the British cover. I like the colors and the tree in the background.
Have you read this yet? Does the statue in the foreground of the Swedish cover play a crucial part?
Tracy: it is funny, really, because of course the story is the same. I think the British is best as the story is not gory or anything.
SvarSletKelly: you can read my review tomorrow. The statue is not important, but art is (paintings).
LOL. The pink certainly tames it down.
SvarSletI am never relying on the cover!
SvarSletThe pink makes it look like chick lit.
SvarSletBeth: yes, it looks like something I would have loved when I was ten.
SvarSletOle: very sound principle. Nevertheless I think the publisher made a blunder.
Bibliophile: exactly, and rather misleading as the plot and police work are better than in her earlier novels.
Oh come on! It's just a color! sigh...
SvarSletI do think it pretty. :)
Care: well, I did read and review it, but then I am a woman :D
